Tasmania Police launched a new Compliments and Complaints Portal in December 2024, offering an easy and accessible way for the public to provide feedback on their experiences with police, raise concerns, or share positive interactions.
The initiative reflects Tasmania Police’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and community engagement.
The portal was developed in response to the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings (Commission of Inquiry), particularly recommendation 16.7. The recommendation called for a clear, publicly accessible process for reporting allegations involving police officers. It allows direct communication with the Professional Standards Command and includes links to oversight bodies such as the Integrity Commission Tasmania and Ombudsman Tasmania.
The portal connects directly to Tasmania Police’s professional standards system, which makes sure feedback is quickly and consistently recorded and assessed. The new platform makes the complaints process faster and easier, and shows how Tasmanian Police are improving technology and services over time

Similar systems in other countries, particularly in the United States, have led to more people being engaged by easily sharing their concerns and positive experiences through an easy-to-use platform.
For those who prefer alternative methods, the Tasmania Police website also provides information on how to submit feedback via email or post.
All matters submitted are managed in accordance with the Police Service Act 2003 and the Commissioner’s Directions for Conduct and Complaint Management, and Compliance Review (Abacus) ensuring fairness, consistency, and appropriate oversight.
The new platform is a significant step forward in building public confidence in policing services across Tasmania. By providing an accessible and transparent way to share feedback, Tasmania Police is strengthening its relationship with the community and reinforcing Tasmania Police’s values of accountability, integrity, support and respect.
