Progress is being made on all Commission of Inquiry recommendations and broader organisational reforms.
Every 3 months, we release a progress update, which sets out the work we’ve been doing to make Tasmania safer for children and young people.
Since our last progress update and less than 12 months in to phase 2, we have hit a number of milestones. These milestones include:
- Appointing the first Child Safety Implementation Monitor to oversee reforms and work with agencies to keep children safe (recommendation 22.1).
- Forming the Victim-Survivor Advisory Group, who will start meeting from early 2025 (recommendation 19.5).
- Releasing the Youth Justice Model of Care and its Implementation Plan (recommendation 12.18).
- Training our staff to better recognise and respond to child sexual abuse (recommendations 16.3, 6.04, 6.05, 15.15 and 15.6).
- Rolling out trauma-informed practices training for legal practitioners and law firms working on abuse in care litigation (recommendation 17.2)
These milestones and the many other changes made since our last report form key parts of wider recommendations. They are significant pieces of work needed to move their recommendations forward.
The full progress update can be read on both the 'What the Tasmanian Government is doing' page and the ‘Recommendation status’ page, where the status of all recommendations can be found.
