NEW Safeguarding Training Package coming for organisations to use across Tasmania

June 26 2025

As part of the Tasmanian Government’s response to the Commission of Inquiry, a suite of safeguarding training packages is being developed for use across both government and community organisations.

These free, ready to use modules support a consistent, state-wide approach to child safeguarding, so that individual organisations can use this shared training package. They will be reviewed and updated annually to reflect best practice, legislative changes, and ongoing feedback. Whether you're in a small community service or a large government agency, these resources will provide a strong foundation for creating safe, inclusive environments for children and young people.

To help make the training package relevant for your organisation and internal processes, the modules will include signposts for you to insert information specific to your organisation.

Tailored for Different Roles

Creating a child-safe culture requires everyone to understand their role. The training package has been developed around three key groups within organisations:

  1. All paid and unpaid adults - every staff member, volunteer and contractor, regardless of their job.
  2. Managers - people responsible for leading teams, supervising others, or making organisational decisions.
  3. Corporate and Workforce Services - functions such as human resources, legal, policy and governance, where systems and processes are developed and maintained.

Each group has a different role to play in keeping children safe, so the training package has been tailored around that.

Recommended Training Pathway

  • Everyone starts with the Tell Someone Introductory Video
  • Everyone completes the Safety and Reporting module (aligned to their level of trauma-informed practice)
  • Managers also complete Managing and Leading Safeguarding
  • Corporate and workforce services complete Keeping Children Safe

The modules follow adult learning principles combining self-paced learning, real world case studies and practical tools. The training resources outline responsibilities, embed trauma-informed approaches, and include examples of how individuals will be held accountable in their roles.

This training package has been developed to help organisations embed a culture of safeguarding and support every adult in Tasmania to play their part in protecting children.
